14. Debt that
cannot be Paid off
Once a boy hurriedly came
up to his mother in the kitchen, and handed her a piece of paper that he had
been writing on. Mother became astounded to see and to read that, in which
money had been asked, for cutting the grass: ₹5.00, for cleaning up the room: ₹1.00,
for going to the store: ₹.50, for taking care of the baby while she had gone to
market: ₹.25, taking out the garbage: ₹1.00, for getting a good report card: ₹5.00,
for cleaning up and raking the yard: ₹2.00. Total owed: ₹14.75. On the back of
the paper she wrote-no charge for carrying nine months in stomach, no charge
for treatment and praying all night for you during illness, no charge for
wiping your nose, no charge for fulfilling your requirements. Total cost: nil.
This writing choked the boy and he overwhelmingly said, “Mom, I do love you.”
And then he took the pen and in great big letters he wrote, “Paid in full.”
Moral: Mother's love can't be
repaid in money.
