19. The Farmer
and the Stork
Finding a few uninvited
cranes destroying his newly sown crops, a farmer set a net in his field in
order to catch those destructive birds.
Next day, when the farmer
strode across the field to examine the net he found that the net was full of
cranes and a stork. Suddenly, the farmer heard a moaning voice of a stork, who
was imploring to release him. The stork innocently cried, “I am a poor stork
and I have not eaten your crops. I serve my parents with dutiful work.” The
stork pleaded for life but the farmer cut him short. “All this may be true
enough, but you have been caught with those destructive birds So you must
suffer the company in which you are found,” asserted the farmer.
