141. The
Goldsmith and the Crow
Once, a great
saint was on his way for alms. He visited each house of the village. He reached
the door of a goldsmith, who was polishing gold balls. The saint was heartily invited
and was given reverence. The saint sat and the goldsmith went inside to bring
some fruits for the saint. Meanwhile, a crow came and swallowed 3 balls of gold.
When the goldsmith came back, he got astonished to see the less number of gold
balls and brutally humiliated the saint. He tied him by accusing him of theft
in scorching sunlight that led to the saint's death but the saint didn't say
anything about the crow. In the evening when the sun was setting, lots of crows
were crossing the goldsmith's house. Suddenly, the goldsmith found three gold
balls which were dropped by a crow. He understood the whole situation that
jolted him. Now the goldsmith repented of his folly. The saint had died for the
sake of the crow's life.
