111. The Bet #Inspirational Moral Stories
Mae and Blanche were best friends. But Blanche was a proud
girl. She would always boast about herself to others. Mae was tired of her. One
day, Mae and Blanche went for a swim. Blanche began boasting, "I can swim
very fast. I am a great swimmer. I can even swim against the tide." Mae
was tired of Blanche's boastful ways. She told Blanche, "If you are such a
good swimmer, why don't you jump into the river and swim against the tide? I
bet you can't." Blanche said foolishly, "Yes, I can!" Then she
jumped into the river. Immediately, the strong currents swept her away and she
began drowning. Just then, Mae swam towards her quickly and rescued her.
Blanche thanked Mae and said, "You never told me you are a better swimmer than
I. I have understood that pride goes before a fall. Forgive me."
