Introduction
A young boy from a lower caste lived in a village, serving his community with devotion to Lord Shiva. Though uneducated, his love for the Lord was sincere. He would chant 'Shava, Shava! Shava Shava!' as he worked, constantly keeping his mind focused on Lord Shiva.
The Encounter
One day, a Brahmin passed by and overheard the boy chanting 'Shava, Shava!' Instead of appreciating his devotion, the Brahmin scolded the boy for chanting the wrong word. He said that 'Shava' meant dead body and the boy should be chanting 'Shiva' instead. The Brahmin insisted the boy must chant 'Shiva' correctly as a punishment for his mistake.
The Dream
That night, the Brahmin had a dream where Lord Shiva spoke to him. Shiva said that despite the boy's wrong pronunciation, the boy's emotion was pure and sincere. His intention was to call out to Lord Shiva, whereas the Brahmin's act was driven by superiority, not devotion.
The Wisdom
Lord Shiva told the Brahmin, "The boy’s heart was pure in devotion. His love for me mattered more than the words he used. Your words, though correct, were empty because your intention was not of true devotion." The Brahmin was humbled and realized that pure emotion in devotion is more important than rituals and correctness.
