130. The
King and the Boy
Once a king named
Kushwant Singh, who was brave as well as kind too, was going somewhere with his
soldier. Suddenly a piece of stone struck his head and he started bleeding.
Seeing this the king got baffled and ordered his soldier to find the culprit. The
soldier saw a twelve-year old boy and brought him in front of the king. The
king asked, "Why did you do so?” Then the boy started crying and confessed
his fault and said that he had been ravenous for three days; he was trying to
pluck the mangoes from the tree by throwing the stone. When the king heard this
he ordered his soldier to give the boy two gold coins. The boy happily took the
coins and went from there. After that, the soldier asked, “In spite of being a
culprit why was the boy given coins?” The king replied, “If a tree can give
fruit after being hurt, why can't I give him coins after being struck with a
stone.”
